Terrified Iraqi soldiers who thought the war had already started, crossed the Kuwait border and tried to surrender to British forces, according to a report in the London Sunday Mirror.

The drama unfolded last Monday, when a dozen troops waved the white flag as British paratroopers tested mortars and artillery weapons to make sure they were working. The Iraqis found a way across the fortified border, which is sealed off with barbed-wire fencing, watchtowers and huge trenches.

The stunned troops were forced to tell the Iraqis they weren't firing at them, and ordered them back to their home country, telling them it was too early to surrender.

"The British guys on the front-line could not believe what was happening. They were on pre-war exercises when all of a sudden these Iraqis turned up out of nowhere, with their hands in the air, saying they wanted to surrender.

"They had heard firing and thought it was the start of the war,'' a British Army source in Kuwait told the Mirror.

''The Paras are a tough, battle-hardened lot but were moved by the plight of the Iraqis. There was nothing they could do other than send them back. ''They were a motley bunch and you could barely describe them as soldiers – they were poorly equipped and didn't even have proper boots. Their physical condition was dreadful and they had obviously not had a square meal for ages. No one has ever known a group of so-called soldiers surrender before a shot has been fired in anger,'' the source said.

I don't know about this. It seems like there has got to be stuff left out. I'm no army intelligence officer or nuthin but wouldn't they want to hold and question these "soldiers" of the opposition? And they shouldn't let 12 enemy soldiers be able to "come out of no where" on 'em. I mean, remember the 'Dirty Dozen'?

7 - "Why is everyone so worried? The only thing to fear is fear itself."
I agree 7, but I think the American population are being sold fear, fear of Iraq, fear of terrorists, etc, and with fear they find confort in our military to defend us from it. Iraq is a country that 1.hasn't done anything worth spilling blood over for a decade, 2.has more proof that they don't have WMDestruction than that they do, 3.has the #2 shitload of Oil in world, 4. and sits in the middle of one of the last regions of the world the US has not yet been able to exploit. Somehow we're supposed to believe that this is worth dying for? Only outa fear can you believe that.

way to buy into the propaganda, you idiot...

this war won't take 7 days...

saddam has to fight until he dies, thats the position we've put him in... and the iraqi military has been in a lot more shit than our army has... they're battle hardened and ready to go... a few young'ns will surrender but the rest of them are well aware of the consequences of defeat...

now ask yourself this... does saddam have anything to lose? do his high ranking military officers? no... if they lose this war they die... they'll fight a REAL war this time... and use all the weapons at their disposal to fight it... because they HAVE TO to STAY ALIVE...

and the loyalty of the army? if they lose...

2 years american occupation minimum... and our manipulation of their govenment to make them another oil puppet (see: saudio arabia, kuwait, etc)...

this shit won't just blow over... we're trying to start world war 3... the US is the new Roman empire...

I've been thinkin that too Mission...we are the new Rome...will it end as badly for us as it did for them? History says it will if we dont change our international policy...I hate thinking that we are the worlds biggest bully graemlins/fight.gif

how come every time we're readying for war and just campin by the enemy, we lose more soldiers in random helicopter crashes than actual fighting? maybe we should stick to jets.
