Everyone come to the University Lutheran Church of hope for the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood meeting if you want to voice your opinion on the proposed phasing out of liquor liscences in Southeast Minneapolis as well as the proposal to use NRP money (meant to revitalize neighborhoods) to pay officers time and a half to work extra in Southeast at the expense for poorer neighborhoods that cant afford it.
There will also be a special NRP meeting tomorrow downtown at city hall to discuss the proposed liquor liscence ordinance.

Again, some facts are in order:

Just FYI, nowhere on Marcy-Holmes' website (http://www.marcy-holmes.org/) is there anything about a liquor license issue at the 9/17 meeting. On top of that, the August meeting's minutes (http://www.marcy-holmes.org/minutes/20aug2002.html) show that the MHNA voted to support a beer and wine license for the Steak Knife.

A quick glance at the NRP funding profile (http://www.nrp.org/R2/Neighborhoods/Summary/NbhdSummary.html) for Minneapolis puts total NRP funding for Marcy Holmes at $5M and Phillips at $18M. Interestingly, Marcy's percentage of households in poverty is 33%, while Phillips' is 39%. Most neighborhoods have budgeted a portion of their NRP funds towards buying extra police presence (Longfellow, for example, spent almost $72,000 on just extra cops).

While this meeting has nothing to do with NRP, it will discuss the amendment (http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/council/2003-meetings/20030926/docs/02_SE_Overlay_Ordinance_0917.pdf) to the liquor license application process, disallowing NEW bar licenses. It clearly gives exceptions for restaurants (Pasta Bar/Steak Knife) and wine bars.
Your Dinkytown bars will be safe, as will live music in Dinkytown.

I have to say, you are a well-informed person... Thanks for the clarification. There was indeed some misinformation in that post...
